Do you feel as if you are searching for meaning? Feeling as if you haven't yet aligned with what you know you are here to do?
I cannot tell you how many books, blogs, and podcasts I have listened to over the years, looking for guidance to assist me in finding my life purpose.
No matter what I was doing, no matter what success I had achieved, there was always a part of me attached to this idea that if I could just get “there.” If someone could just pluck me off the streets and tell me I was amazing and needing to be doing some illustrious career and they were going to set it all up for me, then I could be happy. Then I would be fulfilled.
There was always a restless angst to be and do more.
There was a world out there that needed to be saved after all, and wasn’t I just wasting my life away if I wasn’t out in the battlefield actively making a global difference?
Can you relate to any of these feelings?
If you can, you know how exhausting being in this space can be. There is always something else that needs to be done. Always more internal clearing work to try and uncover what's preventing you from living that idealized, world saving life. Always an inner guilt at the end of each day, feeling like you once again failed to live your life’s purpose.
As you may know by now my desire in life is now to cultivate a softer, more compassionate, loving relationship with all aspects of my being. So lets apply this practice to the search of living your life’s greatest purpose.
What if we made this super simple? What if we take a moment and set aside all of the grandiose images of saving the world, of making a difference, and for the sake of being kind and gentle to ourselves explore only our relationship with our own heart.
What if your life purpose is simply to love all aspects of your own heart more than ever before?
Doesn’t that feel so much lighter? Much more attainable?
Now if you’re anything like me there is an immediate kick-back - “But I want to make a difference in this world! There is a burning desire in me to help others! To impact change!”
I hear those cries, I know them intimately. And when they arise, I take the time to pause, take a deep breath, relax my body and turn to them:
“I know sweetheart. I know that there is a calling within you to make a difference. I know you feel a burning desire to heal this planet. I know you want to be out in the trenches. And I honor you for that. I acknowledge your desires, and I appreciate your care and concern.”
As this aspect of your inner child is really heard, the internal conflict begins to soften into stillness and spaciousness.
From this spaciousness, there is a profound ease that can hear the power of allowing your life purpose to be first and foremost loving your own heart as never before.
For as we take the time to notice the edges, the triggers, the conflicts, the shadows that arise within us, and offer them our acknowledgement, time, compassion and love, the constant struggle and consequential guilt of trying to identify your life purpose with some vocation begins to fade.
From this space you begin to open to the recognition that when you place loving your own heart as your top priority, you begin to radiate a calm, grounded, powerful love no matter what scenario, job, or experience you find yourself in.
You begin to recognize the divine perfection in everything. You start to see divinity in all. And inspiration is seen in any and everything.
So i invite you to join me in softening some of the pressure off yourself - the pressure to actively seek your life purpose in a career.
And instead to take a few deep breaths, soften your belly, place a hand on your heart, and begin to create a relationship with all aspects of your unique self - loving the one who feels a sense of injustice, loving the one who is impatient, loving the one who doesn’t like change, loving the one who wants things to look differently than they do.
When you start on the inside, and take the conscious time to allow your own heart to be the safest place in the world for you to be, then the external world cannot help but begin to match the vibration of love, compassion, and acceptance that you have internally cultivated.
I see you in your radical uniqueness. I honor you. And I thank you for your courage to be here doing all that you do.
P.S. Hearing from you makes my day! I love connecting with you, hearing your stories, hearing your thoughts on these musings, hearing your questions, so feel free to reach out to me and I will personally respond!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
